About Billy

Early Days…Football
‘Young Billy’ (aka David Creamer) arrived on the scene bright and early on a fine spring morning in 1963, in the historic harbour city of Portsmouth, England. Motivated by his football mad father he spent most of his early years kicking a soccer ball. When his family emmigrated to New Zealand in 1972, Dave carried on his football obsession and spent his teens, twenties and most of his thirties competing at central and National level for Stop Out and Hutt Valley/Lower Hutt.  Summers were spent honing his agility playing tennis.

Running and Ironman
As retirement from first team football loomed, the broader fitness fanatic started to emerge. Dave took up firstly swimming then marathon running and then track sprinting (100/200/400/800) in an attempt to keep up with the young fellas. This path inevitably led to Dave completing his first Ironman in 2001 and so another obsession was born.

“Sport Billy”
The nickname “Billy” was coined by Ange (Campbell), Wellington Tri Club legend, who noted that Dave was trying to juggle football, tennis, athletics and triathlon all at once.   Hence the boy was dubbed “Sport Billy”.  As the years have marched on triathlon has all but taken over in the summer, with a little bit of football ticking over  in the winter time.

Career Change
Dave’s immersion in running and triathlon also coincided with a career change in 2000, from desk bound accountant to personal trainer with Les Mills – the transformation was complete.
